Jordi from Touring Catalonia recommended me this tour for its contrast: Pyrenees, Girona city and Costa Brava. It was awesome. Discovering the Girona on 2 wheels is a really amazing option!!

I love discover the world on 2 wheels !

The province of Girona is known for its variety landscape, located between Barcelona and the French border, it’s easy to organize a really nice hike tour near the Mediterranean Sea and in the Pyrenees.

Highlights include regions like the Garrotxa volcanic land where natural landscapes and good food make it an almost perfect to enjoy the place like the native do, specially when we will be located in a typical rural farm house in Joanetes.

Also it is important to mention the Empordà which will be the 2nd part of our trip. The region is delimited with France and the sea. In Empordà you can see the typical scenery of the Costa Brava. We will be located in the charming L’Estartit.

We offer various routes through the region, always with the ability to adapt on the fly to the level of our customers. The routes are between 3 and 6 hours. Guests are picked up at the hotel and taken to the starting point of the route. Eventually they move from the end point to the hotel.

DAY 1 - Settle down in Joanetes

Arrival at Joanetes. Settle down in the fully restored rural house. Welcome meeting with someone from Touring Catalonia staff to introduce about the hiking holidays. Overnight in the fully restored farmhouse in Joanetes. A small and millenary village in the heart of La Garrotxa county.

DAY 2 - La Fageda & Croscat Volcanoe

Volcanic Zone of the Garrotxa is the best example of volcanic landscape of the Iberian Peninsula and one of the largest in Europe. The terrain, the sun an the climat provide a varied vegetation often exuberant, with holm oak, oak and beech forests of exceptional scenic value.

We propose a circular route to discover 3 of the most visited and most special places of the Natural Park of Volcanic Zone Garrotxa: The volcano of Santa Margarida, the Fageda d’en Jordà and Croscat volcano. Through a guided tour we work all aspects of these natural spaces, its flora and geology.

DAY 3 - Sant Aniol de Finestres - Alta Garrotxa: Route of the Caves

A circular route where we will see different caves in a unique setting for a few hours we dive into its history. Beautiful excursion in the Valley of St Aniol. Nature and history mix in equal parts.

Their corners caves frequented by maquis, black marketeers, bandits, smugglers and fugitives bishops of former Muslims are now a shelter for goats.

In the afternoon, guided visit to discover Girona.

DAY 4 - El Puigsacalm

One of the most characteristic views from our Hotel is Joanetes is the Puigsacalm mountain. El Puigsacalm is the highest mountain of the Catalan Transversal Range in Catalonia. It has an elevation of 1,512 metres above sea level and its famous for its rocky shape.

DAY 5 - Transfer to L’Estartit - Hiking Montgrí Castle

This tour will take us to distant times of medieval Catalonia by the hand of Montgri Castle, forests that grow playing with the sea, pristine beaches, military sites in not too distant years, we will understand the meaning of the word “Costa Brava” in a unique setting as the Montgrí. We enjoy the magnificent panoramic views of Emporda and bays of Roses and Estartit, the counties of Gironès and jungle, the massif of Gavarres and Montseny, and of the Medes Islands, in short fabulous views.

DAY 6 - Estartit Natural parc until L’Escala

This tour will give us an approaching to the coves in the area and also the possibility to walk through the vast extension of pine woods that cover the inland of the massif of the Montgri, with the view of an impressive wall cliffs that has many caves and fascinating rock formation such as La Foradada ( “the Perforated”).
